Task

You have been hired by Mrs. Whitmire to design a floor plan for her family room.  Your job as an interior decorator is to organize this room.  You must include all of the following furniture items.  The area measure of each item is given in centimeters.  You will then show your presentation to Mrs. Whitmire.  Some suggestions for your presentation include using a poster board, using the computer or hand drawing the floor plans.  You will then go shopping for the furniture items listed below.  Print the following sheet because you will  turn it in and it will be used as part of your grade.  You have a budget of $10,000.

Process

The first thing you need to do is print out the grid below.  You may want to make 2 copies so you can practice on one of them.  This will represent the family room which measures 20 ft. X 17 ft.  After that, you need to practice arranging the furniture.  For example, the pool table is 36 cm2 and can be arranged 1x12, 2x18, 3x12, 4x9, or 6x6.  Make sure the area of each piece of furniture makes sense.  You will also need to label each piece of furniture.
