LITERACY WEEK WILL BE CELEBRATED THE FIRST WEEK OF NEXT MONTH .  MRS.  RAMONA READER AND HER VERY ACTIVE STUDENT COUNCIL WILL BE INVITING SEVERAL AUTHORS TO MAKE A GUEST APPEARANCE TO PROMOTE THE IMPORTANCE OF LITERACY.

YOU ARE A MEMBER OF MRS. RAMONA READER'S STUDENT COUNCIL AND YOU HAVE BEEN ASKED TO MAKE A POSTER TO CREATE INTEREST IN LITERACY WEEK.  YOU HAVE ALSO BEEN ASKED TO INTRODUCE AN AUTHOR THAT WILL BE MAKING A GUEST APPEARANCE TO YOUR SCHOOL.   RESEARCH YOUR ASSIGNED AUTHOR SO YOU CAN INCLUDE IMPORTANT INFORMATION IN THE INTRODUCTION TO THE OTHER STUDENTS.  MAKE YOURSELF FAMILIAR WITH THE AUTHOR BY READING A BOOK BY HIM/HER AND REPORTING ON IT.

YOU WILL BEGIN WITH THE TEACHER ASSIGNING YOU AN AUTHOR.  YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

1. RESEARCH THE AUTHOR YOU HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED.           
   THIS SHOULD INCLUDE:
          A.  WHEN AND WHERE HE/SHE WAS BORN 
          B.  EDUCATION AND TRAINING
          C.  FACTS ABOUT PERSONAL LIFE  (EX.  GROW-
               ING UP, MARRIED, CHILDREN)
          D.  WORKS WRITTEN
          E.   INTERESTING FACTS  (EX.  AWARDS 
                            EARNED, INFLUENCES, ETC.)

2.  CREATE A POSTER TO PROMOTE LITERACY WEEK
     INCLUDE:
          A.  A CATCHY SLOGAN
          B.  ONE OR MORE ILLUSTRATIONS
          C.  FACTS ABOUT LITERACY AND THE
               IMPORTANCE OF READING

3.   REPORT ON A BOOK WRITTEN BY YOUR ASSIGNED  
      AUTHOR.  YOU MAY CHOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING 
      IDEAS FOR YOUR REPORT.
          A.  DESCRIBE THE MOST EXCITING         
               PART OF THE STORY.  INCLUDE
               VIVID DESCRIPTIONS.
          B.  WRITE A LETTER TO THE AUTHOR AND
               GIVE YOUR OPINION OF THE BOOK.
               TELL IN DETAIL WHY YOU LIKED OR 
                DISLIKED THE BOOK.
          C.   WRITE A SHORT SEQUEL TO THE 
                STORY.  INCLUDE SETTING, CHARAC-
                TERS AND PLOT.
          D.  DESIGN A BOOKMARK FOR THE BOOK.
               INCLUDE AN ILLUSTRATION ON ONE   
               SIDE AND A SHORT SUMMARY ON THE
               OTHER SIDE.
           E.  CREATE A COMIC STRIP SUMMARIZING
                THE STORY.
           F.   COMPOSE A POEM ABOUT THE MAIN 
                 CHARACTER OF THE STORY.
