INTRODUCTION

 

Do you want to be in the groove? Do you want to be a hip 6th grader? One way to do this is to have good nutrition and sufficient exercise.

TASK

 

You will be learning how to have awesome nutrition by going to a website to learn about the exercise pyramid and the food pyramid.  then you will draw these two pyramids on poster board. To complete this activity you will write what food you ate and what exercise you did in the correct pyramids in a 24 hour period.

PROCESS

 

1.Go to www.kidshealth.org to learn about the food pyramid. Click on Enter teens. Then click on the Fabulous food guide pyramids. Go through all the different food groups.

Bread, Cereals, Grains

Vegetables

Fruits

Meat, Poultry, Fish

Dairy

Fats, Sweets, Oils

2. Go to www.eatright.org to learn about the exercise pyramid. Read it and understand how the pyramid works.

3. Do the Handout on the Food Pyramid. You are going to be writing down what foods you eat for three days and then check what food group it goes it by putting a check in the correct box.

4.Do the Handout on the Exercise Pyramid. You are going to write down the exercises you have done in a weeks time.

5. Now you are ready to make a poster of the two pyramids. Draw the food pyramid on one side of the poster and the exercise pyramid on the other. Label the pyramids with their correct title and label each section of the pyramid with their correct section.

6. Refer to your food pyramid handout and decide what day is most typical for you for the three days. Fill in the foods on the food pyramid you have created on the poster board.

7. Fill in your exercise pyramid with the exercises you have wrote down on your handout for a weeks time. Put it in the correct section of the pyramid.
