90% ATTENDANCE RULE
Texas Education Code Statutes
Section 25.092. MINIMUM ATTENDANCE FOR CLASS CREDIT
(a) Except as provided by this section, a student may not be given credit for a class unless the student is in attendance for at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered.
Denial of course credit based on 90% Rule (TEC 25.092)
The most possible days to miss before makeup time is required for credit in the Fall of 2012 is:
9 Days = 10 % of 90 Days @ 8 Periods per day
That means, if more than 8 days are missed in the Fall of 2008, makeup time will be needed. That also means, if more than 8 days in a single class are missed, then makeup time will be needed.
The rate for makeup is ½ time. For every class period missed beyond eight periods, 22 minutes will be required to makeup a single class period. If only one period class is missed beyond 8 periods, 22 minutes per period missed will apply to that class only and thus calculated at that rate.
For those with extenuating circumstances, the rate for makeup is ¼ time or as the committee sees necessary.
Only two Saturdays at the end of the Semester will be guaranteed to available for makeup time. A third Saturday might be available. There will not be certain days, after school hours in a classroom, or other arrangements guaranteed for makeup time unless a teacher is willing to supervise that student. If the makeup time is not served, credit will be denied in that class or classes.
