FRIONA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NETWORK/INTERNET
ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY 2007-2008
(For Parents and Students)
ONLY COMPLETE THIS FORM YOUR FIRST YEAR IN THE DISTRICT. DO NOT TURN THIS FORM IN AGAIN UNLESS YOU WANT TO MAKE CHANGES.
Friona ISD offers students access to a computer network and the Internet. To gain access to the Internet, all students must obtain parental permission as verified by the signatures on the parental permission page. Should a parent/guardian prefer that a student not have Internet access, use of the computers is still possible for more traditional purposes such as word processing.
The district provides a web filtering software to protect students from accessing inappropriate material. While the purpose of the district network is to use Internet resources for constructive educational goals, students may accidentally access other materials. Friona ISD believes that the benefits to educators and students from access to the Internet, in the form of information resources far exceed any disadvantages of access. But ultimately, parents and guardians of minors are responsible for setting and conveying the standards that their children should follow when using media and information sources. Therefore, we support and respect each family’s right to decide whether or not to approve Internet access.
Students are responsible for appropriate behavior on the school’s computer network just as they are in a classroom or on a school playground. General school rules for behavior apply. It is expected that users will comply with district standards and the specific rules set forth below. The use of the network is a privilege, not a right, and may be revoked if abused. The user is personally responsible for his/her actions in accessing and utilizing the school’s computer resources. Below are the guidelines for Network/Internet use.
Consequences of Agreement Violation – Any attempt to violate the provisions of this agreement may result in revocation of the student’s access to the Network/Internet. In addition, school disciplinary action and/or appropriate legal action may be taken. With just cause, the building principal and/or designee, may deny, revoke, or suspend Network/Internet access as required, pending an investigation. Any attempt to break the law through the use of a Friona ISD Network/Internet account, may result in litigation against the offender by the proper authorities. If such an event occurred, Friona ISD will fully comply with the proper authorities to provide any information necessary for the litigation process.
